What the city does affects you right away as garbage piles up and taxes are increased for just a few. And of course the ever concerning problem with the homeless which can't help but have its negative impact on society. Its a real downer for us all and a shame for a province that brags of its riches. After putting up with a lot more traffic congestion and construction, and hearing of the cost overruns already starting on the Olympics, and not to mention the fairly toxic tenor of council, people want a chance to push back on those trends. I don't think high turnout is because of the US election, but I do think it stems from a similar frustration.
