Musing about NPA mayoral candidate begins

July 30th, 2009 · 9 Comments

The folks over at the Georgia Straight had this interesting item about park board commissioner Ian Robertson thinking aloud about running as the mayoral candidate for the Non-Partisan Association next time around.

It’s actually not too early to start planning for that — a bare year and a half away, really, or only 18 Critical Mass rides, before parties need to start getting their ducks lined up for the 2011 civic election.

I’d like to take a moment of your time and officially announce that I will not be running for mayor.

I would think that at this point, speculations about the NPA Mayoral candidate are irrelevant. Whats critical at this time is the state of the affairs in the back room of the party. And it appears that things are in the state of paralysis, with virtually no progress made since November 2008. Ian Robertson’s musings about 2011 are incredibly self-serving and amateur. There is a monumental task for the party to solve and Robertson doesn’t appear to grasp that in any meaningful way. If the party is to gain any momentum, it will need a star candidate of high ranking calibre and a personal cache that can fill in the vacuum in the NPA brand. Robertson posses neither the callibre nor the cache.

Am I the only one who finds it rather droll to contemplate the several ironies of Robertson’s claims of encouragement from (among others) (presumably ex-) Larry Campbell supporters?

Addison thinks what the NPA needs is a “star candidate”. How could we disagree with that assessment?

You know because Larry did such a fabulous job and our current mayor is following in his footsteps. Both “star candidates” for their respective parties at election time.

Perhaps Addison would care to recruit Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton for the NPA!

These ‘talented’ ladies would suit the completely narrow-minded and amateur opinion that only a “star candidate” will help the NPA gain momentum.

If things continue on the path Vision is currently taking, the NPA could run a dog as their candidate and have a great chance of carrying mayor and council in 2011.

I hope the NPA runs Tsakumis. Then Gregor Robertson could be caught eating whale sushi with underage girls in a grow-op and still get elected!

    Chris:

You are delusional. I am not a politician and haven’t the slightest interest in running.

But if Gregor Robertson did eat whale sushi with underage girls in a grow-op, I know he’d get your vote…

Actually I’m more of a Betty Krawczyk fan. I like the idea of a grandma with guts running the show.

Well, Gregor Robertson has been in one party for a relatively really really long time now.
He’s probably getting itchy feet to switch. Maybe he’ll run for the NPA!?

    Gregor 4 NPA:

That’s one of the funniest posts I’ve ever read.

    Very well done.
