The candidates’ families turn out to help

November 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Non-Partisan Association mayoral candidate always seems to have a swarm of family members around helping out, between his umpteen brothers, sisters, inlaws, and children.

But Gregor Robertson got some extra help on E-Day, when his wife’s parents came up from Indiana to watch the festivities. I asked Amy if they’d been inspired by Barack Obama’s win to come and hope for the same here. Well, she explained, they weren’t really Obama supporters. More like diehard Republicans.

Her father runs a restaurant-equipment manufacturing plant back in Indiana (aha, this is where the food-production gene comes from) and so has never been a natural affiliate of the Democratic Party.

But they’re up here anyway, supporting their son-in-law. They were at the Vision rally yesterday, noticeable among the crowd of dreadlocked, magenta-haired young volunteers. Saturday, Amy’s mom spent half the day helping make sandwiches for many of those same volunteers.
