Invitation: Take a Jane’s Walk or Host a Jane’s Walk May 2 and 3

John Atkin's Strathcona“No one can find what will work for our cities by looking at suburban garden cities, manipulation scale models, or inventing dream cities. You’ve got to get out and walk.”
– Jane Jacobs, Downtown is for People, 1957

This May, Think City, in partnership with The Centre for City Ecology, is celebrating the legacy of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs with its second annual series of free walking tours called Jane’s Walk given in neighbourhoods throughout the city.

On May 2 and 3, Think City will bring together citizens, activists and such Vancouver notables as Gordon Price, Molly Winston, John Atkin, Judy Williams, Doug Harris and Bruce Macdonald to lead tours through city neighbourhoods. Each guide will highlight the people, places, and public spaces that make that particular community interesting and unique. Sign-up today to host or walk. Space is limited.

  • Host a Walk: Anyone can be a tour guide, pick any area of the city and be creative. Jane’s Walks range from educational lectures to experiential fun – it all depends on you. Click here to sign-up to be a tour guide.
  • Take a Walk: It is easy, fun and free. Sign-up to take a walk and discover something new about the community you live in or a community you want to know more about. Click here to sign-up for a walking tour on May 2 or May 3.
