Vancouver’s dismal taxi situation gets worse

September 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

The city, port and Tourism Vancouver are pushing the province’s regulatory body to give more taxi licences for the city of Vancouver. But, as my Globe and Mail story today notes, cab owners are saying they can’t get the drivers these days to fill the jobs. It takes three drivers (three shifts of round the clock use) to keep one car going and people are not stampeding to the door to do the job.

Cab-driving has traditionally been a classic immigrant entry job, but it appears there are a certain number of disincentives to that field and incentives to go elsewhere these days.
